Smorfie di bambini (2025) - 7’

for prepared flute, clarinet and bassoon

Programme notes

The composition is part of the cycle Kindergarten, a microcosmos where I aim to investigate and transfigure archetypes and cultural references of the children’s world (songs, games, fairy tales, etc.), designing the music with a colour palette modelled primarily on the sounds of toys and the intonation of children's voices.

Smorfie di bambini (children grimaces) is inspired by the gestures, expressions, and noises with which children communicate in their first months of life. Unpredictability, vehemence and playfulness characterise the piece, exploring a timbral palette marked by the use of plastic reeds taken out from children's toys (squeaky toys, groan tubes, etc.), with which all the instruments are prepared.
